This Website provides a collection of folktales and epics that represent the spirituality of the Ainu people. The Ainu, meaning "human" in the Ainu language, is the indigenous people in the northern part of Japan. The site contains four texts on folktales and epics: Aino Folk-Tales, written by Basil Hall Chamberlain in 1888, Specimens of Ainu Folk-lore by John Batchelor in 1888-1893, Yukara, epos of the Ainus by Kiyoko Miura, and Kutune Shiraka, the Ainu Epic translated by Arthur Waley in 1953.
